Customs Breaks Two Cases, Seizes HK$6.6 Million Worth of Drugs, Arrests 3 Including 23-Year-Old Male Student
Customs officers have separately busted two drug cases at the airport and Homantin, seizing approximately 8 kilograms of suspected ketamine, about 2.3 kilograms of suspected cocaine, and approximately 1.1 kilograms of suspected crack cocaine, with an estimated total value of about HKD 6.6 million. Three people have been arrested.
In the first case, customs officers inspected an air parcel arriving from the Netherlands at the airport on March 21, which was declared to contain toys. During inspection, officers found a ceramic statue containing about 8 kilograms of suspected ketamine. Following the investigation, officers monitored the delivery and arrested a 23-year-old male recipient in Tai Po yesterday.
In the second case, customs officers conducted anti-drug operations in Homantin last night. They intercepted a 32-year-old man and found about 1.1 kilograms of suspected crack cocaine inside a reusable bag he was carrying, leading to his arrest. The officers then took him to a nearby residential unit for search, where they recovered about 2.3 kilograms of suspected cocaine, 53 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and a batch of suspected drug manufacturing tools. A 27-year-old woman believed to be involved was also arrested inside the residence.
The man arrested in the first case, who claimed to be a student, has been charged with one count of trafficking dangerous drugs and is scheduled to appear in Fanling Magistrates’ Court tomorrow. The arrested man and woman in the second case, who claimed to be unemployed and a beautician respectively, have been charged with two counts and one count of trafficking dangerous drugs, and are scheduled to appear in Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
