On the afternoon of April 23, the Ministry of Commerce held a routine press conference. A media outlet asked about the U.S. Customs and Border Protection starting the refund process for relevant tariffs on the 20th. What is the Ministry of Commerce’s comment on this? How to safeguard the interests of Chinese export enterprises?

In response, Ministry of Commerce spokesperson He Yongqian stated, “We have noted the relevant situation. China has always opposed any form of unilateral tariff increases. The U.S. measures such as reciprocal tariffs and fentanyl tariffs not only violate international economic and trade rules but also violate U.S. domestic law, harm the global trade order, and are not in the interests of all parties. The U.S. refund measures are a beneficial step in correcting these errors.”

He Yongqian said, “It should be clarified that these tariffs are directly collected by U.S. Customs from U.S. importers and ultimately borne by U.S. consumers. We suggest that Chinese export enterprises, based on their own circumstances, actively communicate with relevant stakeholders to safeguard their legitimate rights and interests.” (Global Times)
