On April 25, Project Eleven awarded 1 Bitcoin to a developer who used Shor’s algorithm to break a 15-digit elliptic curve key on publicly available quantum hardware. Compared to previous public demonstrations, the success rate of this breakthrough improved by 512 times, highlighting the increasing risks faced by the $25 trillion worth of elliptic curve keys that protect digital assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
