Nessel calls DTE rate pause proposal a ‘ransom note’

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has labeled DTE Energy’s proposal for a two-year rate increase pause as a “ransom note,” expressing skepticism about the utility’s conditions. DTE stated it would refrain from filing new rate requests until at least 2028, provided its controversial Saline Township data center project moves forward. Nessel argues that the benefits of such projects for consumers have not been proven and that the utility’s offer is contingent on multiple approvals, not a firm commitment.
