Slovakia claims it has resumed receiving Russian oil through the "Friendship" pipeline.
On April 23 local time, Slovak Minister of Economy Sacova said on social media that Russian oil had resumed entering Slovakia via the “Friendship” oil pipeline at 2 a.m. that day. Sacova said that oil reception is currently proceeding according to the approved plan. The “Friendship” oil pipeline is a large pipeline network system that transports crude oil from Russia to Central and Eastern Europe. The Russian oil transported to Europe via the Ukrainian section of the “Friendship” pipeline has been suspended since January 27 this year. Ukraine says the pipeline was damaged in attacks by Russia, but Hungary and Slovakia do not accept Ukraine’s claim. The Hungarian government accused Ukraine of deliberately creating an “oil blockade” to obstruct the supply of Russian crude oil. In March, at the EU summit, Hungary blocked the EU’s 90 billion euro aid loan to Ukraine, citing Ukraine’s halt of the transportation of Russian oil through the “Friendship” pipeline. (CCTV News)
