CATL claims that 250k mAh lithium iron phosphate batteries are downgraded.

CATL will hold a 2026 “Super Technology Day” press conference tonight, themed “An Appointment in the Extreme Domain.” CATL said this is the most technology-dense press conference since its establishment. At the event, CATL Chief Technology Officer Gao Huan said that ternary lithium batteries are the optimal solution for high-end, long-lasting vehicles. As for cars priced above 250,000 yuan that use lithium iron phosphate batteries, that is essentially a disguised downgrade in configuration. Gao Huan noted that CATL’s third-generation Kirin battery reduces weight by 255 kilograms, delivers lower energy consumption and fewer carbon emissions, and shrinks battery volume by 112L. Without changing the vehicle’s height, the interior space is larger. He also said there have been breakthroughs in power output, bringing 3 megawatts of discharge power—more than double compared with last year. In addition, CATL pioneered the world’s first thermal–electrical separation technology, with heat traveling the heat path while electricity travels the circuit.
