Brazil loses strength in adoption of cryptocurrencies and falls in world ranking
Brazil and Argentina fall two positions each, and Latin America loses representation in the global market.
Brazil has lost its strength in the adoption of cryptocurrencies, according to a new world ranking released this Tuesday (12), by the company Chainalysis.
Released annually, the “Global Crypto Adoption Index” reveals important information about the market. In the 2022 edition, for example, the global ranking placed Brazil in 7th position worldwide in adoption of cryptocurrencies.
Furthermore, the country was the only one in all of Latin America to be among the TOP 10 countries in cryptocurrency adoption. With high inflation in Brazil, investors sought refuge in decentralized digital currencies, which are not interfered by governments or companies.
Brazil falls to ninth position in global ranking of cryptocurrency adoption, India becomes the largest market
In one year, the world went through several political and economic changes, which had a direct impact on the adoption of cryptocurrencies.
One of the most significant cases that represent such a paradigm shift involves a game of musical chairs in global adoption, such as India, which jumped from fourth position to first. In other words, the country with the second largest population in the world is today the largest global crypto market.
Brazil lost its seventh position, falling to ninth in just one year. In other words, despite still remaining relevant as the largest Latin crypto market, Brazilian investors have lost interest.
The study analyzes five indices from all 154 countries, classifying who the largest markets are.
Argentina also lost strength, and Latin America loses prominence
In addition to Brazil, the 2022 ranking featured three other Latin American countries adopting cryptocurrencies, which were Argentina (13th), Colombia (15th) and Ecuador (18th). In other words, four Latin countries had their positions among the 20 with the highest adoption of cryptocurrencies.
However, in the 2023 edition, only three countries appear in the ranking representing Latinos. Among the new features is the departure of Colombia and Ecuador from the TOP 20. Furthermore, Argentina lost two positions, falling from 13th to 15th position.
Another positive news in the region is the arrival of Mexico, which occupies 16th position, after being left out in the 2022 ranking.
With this, the Latin region now has the representation of Brazil (9th), Argentina (15th) and Mexico (16th), remaining with three countries in wide adoption.
