Meet Trezor Safe 7: The first quantum-ready hardware wallet with a next-gen Secure Element chip

Introducing Trezor Safe 7 — the first hardware wallet with an auditable Secure Element chip and quantum-ready architecture. Built on 10+ years of innovation for unmatched crypto security

For more than a decade, Trezor has pushed for radical transparency in digital asset security.

Because in crypto, if you care about not trusting companies, open-source is the only option.

With the new Trezor Safe 7, we take that commitment further.

10+ years of innovation led here, to our most advanced hardware wallet yet, built to give you complete control and uncompromising security…

There’s never been a hardware wallet like this. Trezor Safe 7 is more than an upgrade…

you know that SatoshiLabs created a company in 2020 for one reason?**

“Tropic Square is a private company founded in 2020 as a response to the lack of Secure Element chips with an open architecture in the market.”

Secure Element chips.

These chips are in almost every technology you use to protect sensitive information, from your credit card to your mobile phone and passport… along with modern hardware wallets.

These tamper-resistant chips are used to securely store secrets and enforce access controls.

The problem:

These chips have lacked transparency. Chip design is still a world full of secrecy regarding technical details, which makes it impossible to fully verify the security as a community.

For the Trezor Safe 3 and Trezor Safe 5, we use an industry-leading Secure Element chip that does not require a non-disclosure (NDA) agreement, but to fully materialize our ideals, we needed to go further…

Trezor Safe 7 is the first hardware wallet with an auditable Secure Element chip

Another ‘first’ from Trezor, in collaboration with Tropic Square.

The Trezor Safe 7 is powered by the world’s first transparent and auditable Secure Element chip, TROPIC01, setting a new standard for crypto security.

Thanks to Tropic Square, for the first time ever we can have community-verified Secure Element chips at the hardware level, eliminating the need for trust.

When SatoshiLabs started building these chips with the Tropic Square team 5 years ago, we were told:

“That’s a waste of money.”

“It cannot be done.”

Even by other companies in this industry.

And yet here we are today with these chips ready in the Trezor Safe 7!

To make this device even more secure, we kept the NDA-free Secure Element chip, so it has a dual Secure Element architecture.

“How do these two chips make my Trezor Safe 7 more secure?”

The first NDA-free EAL 6+ Secure Element protects the device from physical access by securely enforcing PIN verification.

By not storing the PIN on the device, it protects the keys from any brute-force attempts in case the device is stolen or lost.

The TROPIC01 Secure Element chip adds another layer of protection on top of this by securely enforcing PIN verification, shielding the device from physical access. Any bad actor now has to break two chips from separate manufacturers.

That’s not all we’re ‘first’ on either:

Preparing for the future: Trezor Safe 7 is quantum-ready

Before you panic about quantum computing arriving tomorrow, this is just our way of taking action to future-proof our devices. A first step in the right direction for the industry.

We think it’s better to be prepared against future threats, which is why the Trezor Safe 7 is the world’s first hardware wallet with quantum-ready architecture.

Designed to protect against possible quantum attacks, once crypto is ready to transition to quantum-proof cryptography, you can make the transition fast with our quantum-ready bootloader.

Here’s a quote from our Chief Technology Officer, Tomáš Sušánka on the quantum computing threat:

“If you’d asked me ten years ago, I would’ve said quantum security was pure sci-fi, something for the next generation to worry about. But with the advancements we’re seeing, I think it’s clear that within the next decade Bitcoin will need to move toward post-quantum algorithms. It’s not here yet, but it’s definitely ahead of us. That’s why with Trezor Safe 7, we decided to take the first step in our industry: making a hardware wallet with quantum-ready architecture.”

This is a device built to stay secure for decades to come.

But it can’t just be secure; it needs something else…

The first wireless Trezor

The Trezor Safe 7 now has encrypted Bluetooth connectivity + magnetic wireless charging.

This means no more looking around for cables. You can quickly use your device with easy Bluetooth connectivity on your mobile, tablet, and laptop.

And the battery?

  • Our LiFePO₄ battery is built for long-term storage with 4x more charging cycles than standard lithium batteries
  • Each secure charge lasts up to 100 transactions
  • It’s designed to safely handle being at 0% for long-term storage (no unexpected damage)

Worried about wireless security?

Trezor Safe 7 uses the secure, open-source Trezor-Host Protocol with double pairing to ensure every connection between your Trezor wallet and Trezor Suite is safe, secure, and encrypted.

Don’t worry if you prefer to use a cable; this device still supports USB-C as well.

The Trezor Safe 7 is designed with ease of use in mind:

“There’s a saying in the security world that I love and firmly stand by: ‘Security at the cost of usability comes at the cost of security.’

*That captures exactly what we’re fighting for. Self-custody solutions must be both secure and easy to use because if people avoid them due to complexity, the whole point of crypto security falls apart.” —*Chief Technology Officer, Tomáš Sušánka

Crypto hardware that’s built to last

Hardware wallets are no longer just for HODLing.

While in the past, you might have used your Trezor once a month or less, we’ve noticed that as the crypto ecosystem has grown, hardware wallets have become a staple that’s used daily in many cases. Users often have multiple devices for travel and on-the-go access to their assets.

Which is why the Trezor Safe 7 has added durability:

  • Premium aluminum all-metal unibody for sleek style and long-term use
  • Extra protection against dust and water (IP54 rated)
  • Added Gorilla Glass protection to the display for increased shatter-protection and scratch-resistance
  • Sleek and durable glass back plate

And the part that brings this all together?…

A decade of open-source innovation, now in your hands

Trezor Safe 7 is built on open-source code and design so that everyone can see and verify how it works.

So when we release a device like the Trezor Safe 7 that redefines self-custody as we know it, the entire industry can benefit and grow.

It’s this transparency that ensures a top level of security and gives you confidence that your crypto is protected.

If you want the best in open-source security to keep your crypto safe for many years to come, pre-order your Trezor Safe 7 today and experience the future of self-custody.
