Data: The concentration of market capitalization in US stocks has reached a record high, with the top 10% of stocks accounting for 78% of the total market value.
On September 27, the trading information platform Kobeissi Letter released data: currently, the top 10% of stocks by market capitalization in the United States account for 78% of the market capitalization of the U.S. stock market, marking a record high. This is still 3 percentage points higher than the record high from the 1930s and above the peak during the 2000 internet bubble, when the percentage was 74%. In contrast, in the 1980s, the total weight of the top 10% of companies was less than 50%. Meanwhile, the percentage of the top 10 stocks in the market capitalization of the S&P 500 index reached a record 41%, indicating a level of market concentration never seen before.
