Gate Research has released its latest report, “Tokenized Stocks: Battle of the Paths,” which provides a systematic analysis of the current landscape and evolving directions of leading tokenized equity models. According to the report, the total market capitalization of tokenized stocks (including ETFs) has exceeded USD 500 million, representing a more than 50-fold increase since the beginning of the year. However, their penetration into the global equities and ETF markets remains modest—approximately 0.0004% and 0.003%, respectively—indicating substantial room for growth.
The report focuses on four representative models—xStocks, Ondo Global Markets, StableStock, and Robinhood—and compares them across dimensions such as liquidity mechanisms, redemption structures, regulatory architecture, and DeFi composability, illustrating an ecosystem characterized by “homogeneous assets, heterogeneous implementations.” It identifies three major bottlenecks currently facing the sector: insufficient liquidity and wide price spreads caused by limited market-making and weak mint/redeem incentives; demand mismatch, as on-chain tokenization has yet to create new use cases that inherently require blockchain infrastructure; and regulatory fragmentation, where unclear responsibilities under different jurisdictions have constrained functionality and user experience.
The report further predicts that the industry’s next stage of evolution will be driven by three major trends: asset diversification, expanding from blue-chip equities to ETFs, pre-IPO shares, and perpetual contracts; regionalization, through multi-country pilot programs and emerging market development; and institutional participation, as deeper involvement from BlackRock, Fidelity, and other traditional financial giants is expected to bring systemic upgrades to the tokenization landscape.
