Janney Montgomery Scott Chief Fixed Income Strategist Guy Lebas, 100 baz points cumulative interest rate cut, the Fed has slowed the pace of interest rate cuts. Although the direction of travel is still towards interest rate cuts, the speed of the progress has slowed down. The continued strong economic growth in the fourth quarter and slightly higher inflation data are the culprits. Currently, the slower rate cut means that the January FOMC meeting will “skip” the interest rate cut, and then another interest rate cut may occur in March as first-quarter inflation data approaches 2%. This is still uncertain and depends on unpredictable short-term data, but in our view, an interest rate cut in March is the most likely outcome.
