The Citigroup analyst stated in a research report that the first-phase impact of the US election on the European financial industry is generally limited. However, considering the future trends of interest rates and foreign exchange, the chain reaction of new tariffs, and the possible relaxation of regulations by US peers, the European banking industry will be affected in the longer term. The analyst added: “Banks that may benefit from the Republican sweep include UBS, Credit Suisse, BNP Paribas, and Societe Generale, while the impact on other banks may be more complicated. In our opinion, it may have a negative impact on Spanish foreign banks, German and Swedish banks.”
