In the 2023 fiscal year, SEC took 784 enforcement actions, with fines and recoveries totaling $4.9 billion. Where feasible, civil penalties and recoveries obtained in civil enforcement actions by the SEC will be returned to harmed investors. In the 2023 fiscal year, $930 million was distributed to harmed investors.
