Since the end of February, there have been 35 violent attacks related to cryptocurrency globally, an increase of 169% in just over half a year, raising the total for 2025 to 48 – a 33% increase compared to the entire year of 2024. France is leading with 14 cases, indicating that this country has become a "hotspot" for this type of crime.

The victims range from retail investors, traders to cryptocurrency executives. A serious incident occurred in Canada when a young man was kidnapped at gunpoint and forced to transfer money into a digital wallet. Although he was fortunate to escape with his life, the suspect has not yet been apprehended.

Expert Jameson Lopp warns that as Bitcoin's price increases, it becomes more attractive to criminals, but custodial tools and security measures have also improved significantly. He advises investors not to flaunt their assets, avoid sharing on social media, master basic security, and consider the balance between self-custody and custodial trust.
