YouTube clarifies new policy: it does not ban all cryptocurrency content, only gambling-related content.
BlockBeats reports that on November 6th, according to Decrypt, YouTube announced it will expand its ban on online gambling content, prohibiting creators from directing viewers to websites that offer “extracurricular items with monetary value” (including game skins, decorations, and NFTs). The policy will take effect on November 17th. This announcement has sparked strong reactions within the crypto community, with many creators worried that it could lead to a comprehensive ban on crypto-related content, especially crypto gaming content. However, a YouTube spokesperson confirmed that this is not the case. The company, owned by Google, stated: “Content showing creators’ in-game skins or decorations, or general discussions about items with real monetary value (such as NFTs), will not be affected by this update.”
