Vitalik: 'BTC Jesus' Roger Ver being sentenced to life imprisonment for tax crimes is absurd

Abstract generation in progress

BlockBeats news, on March 1st, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin wrote, "Being sentenced to life imprisonment for non-violent tax crimes is absurd. The case against ‘BTC Jesus’ Roger Ver seems to have strong political motivations; similar to the founder of the dark web Silk Road, Ross Ulbricht, many individuals and companies have been accused of more serious crimes but faced much lighter sentences than Roger. If the IRS does threaten Roger’s lawyers to obtain confidential information, it is a malicious act; the right to confidential legal advice must be sacred and inviolable. Genuine innocent mistakes should be corrected by giving the parties the opportunity to pay taxes (including Interest and fines) rather than through prosecution.
