On March 26, Jin10 reported that the Istanbul City Council held a vote for the acting mayor candidate. Ultimately, Nuri Arslan, nominated by Turkey’s largest opposition party, the Republican People’s Party (CHP), won with 177 votes against 125 votes for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) candidate, Zeynel Abidin Okul, and was elected as the acting mayor of Istanbul. Arslan previously served as the first vice chairman of the city council and has extensive political and management experience. In this vote, the Republican People’s Party held a majority in the city council with 176 members, significantly outnumbering the Justice and Development Party’s 120 seats.
